Special Adviser on Gender to the speaker House of Representatives Nigeria
My name is Yeside Aminat Olasimbo, born on the plains of Sabo Yaba, Lagos, on 6th May 1994, into the family of Adewale Olasimbo. Raised as the only daughter of my father in a polygamous household, I grew up in an environment that instilled discipline, resilience, and a strong work ethic from an early age.
My late father, who passed in 2019, hailed from Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, while my mother is from Lagos State. I am proudly Lagosian—born, bred, and established in the Centre of Excellence, Sabo Yaba, a place that continues to shape my identity and values.
I began my education at Command Children School, Yaba, a military institution that strengthened my discipline and structure, before moving to Early Years Exclusive Private School, Sabo Yaba.
I attended Methodist Girls High School for my junior secondary education and later completed my secondary school education and O’Levels at Best Brain International College, Abuja.
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Lagos State University, where I developed a strong understanding of governance, public policy, and power dynamics. I am currently studying International Relations at the University of London (LSE), further deepening my global political and diplomatic perspective.
My late father, who passed in 2019, hailed from Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, while my mother is from Lagos State. I am proudly Lagosian—born, bred, and established in the Centre of Excellence, Sabo Yaba, a place that continues to shape my identity and values.
My journey into governance reached a defining moment on September 26, 2023, when I was appointed Special Assistant on Women’s Affairs to the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
In this role, I actively champion women’s representation in leadership and decision-making spaces. My work spans women and girls–focused legislative advocacy, Women, Peace and Security engagements, and support for key bills such as the Special Seats Bill (HB1349) and the successful passage of the Sexual Harassment in Tertiary Institutions Bill.
My legislative and development work remains deeply driven by the goal of systemic inclusion and empowerment.
Before my formal entry into governance, I built a strong public profile through creative and advocacy-driven platforms. My modeling career began in secondary school, where I contested multiple times before winning my first crown—an experience that strengthened my confidence and public presence.
In 2014, I contested Queen of Aso Nigeria, winning Miss Photogenic, and in 2015, I emerged winner of the Miss Nigeria Metamorphosis Challenge. That same year, I was crowned Most Beautiful Girl in Lagos State University, a platform I strategically leveraged for youth engagement and national advocacy. These milestones earned me recognitions including Best Model, Most Influential Beauty Queen, and One of the Greatest Exports from Lagos State University.
Beyond pageantry, I have built a solid career as a writer, producer, director, and actress. I featured in my first film in 2016, and in 2017, I produced my debut film, The Colleague, under Shedlight Productions, which aired on Africa Magic.
In 2019, I rebranded the company to Pegacorn International Studios, a symbol of strength, resilience, and purpose. Since then, I have produced films, documentaries, and commercials, collaborating with brands such as Buypower.ng, Guinness, Sterling Oil, GetfitNG, New Reformation Unity Forum, Zero Integrated, and others.
My professional journey has provided deep exposure to Nigeria’s economic and social ecosystem. I have been extensively involved in grassroots community mobilization, needs assessments, and intervention programs for vulnerable populations.
While relief materials and business start-up grants created immediate impact, these experiences reinforced my belief that sustainable change requires systemic reform and active participation in governance.
This conviction led me into active politics as a registered and committed member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). I remain deeply involved in grassroots political engagement, driven by a long-term vision of transformative, people-centered leadership.
My commitment to sustainability led to the establishment of Bluelilly Initiative, a climate change NGO focused on sustainable development, climate mitigation, and environmental responsibility.
For over five years, with 1,000+ young volunteers, Bluelilly has promoted environmental consciousness and intergenerational responsibility, laying a foundation for a more sustainable future.
At the heart of my journey is a firm belief that leadership must be purposeful, inclusive, and transformative. Whether through policy, advocacy, creative storytelling, or grassroots engagement, my work remains anchored in building systems that work for women, young people, and future generations.
